Berry Green Review

Berry Green formula has what we consider to be an average list of ingredients.  If it weren’t as expensive as the leading brands, it might be something we’d consider as a great green powder, but it’s just as expensive as Green Vibrance and Miracle Vibrance, and has a much less impressive list of ingredients than either.  That’s why this green powder got only 3 stars for both completeness and cost.  Don’t get us wrong, Berry Green is definitely a very healthy powder, but the purpose of this website is to compare different green powders and try and give you the best bang for your buck.  A few key differences.  Berry Greens has probiotic cultures in its formula, but only has 1 billion cultures per serving.  That may sound like a lot but not really when compared with Green Vibrance which has 25 billion probiotic cultures per serving.  1 billion cultures per serving really isn’t enough to make an impact.  Another big thing that we think that Berry Green powder is lacking is algae.  Most green powder formulas contain both organic Chlorella and organic Spirulina, and sometimes others, but Berry Green powder doesn’t have any algae in its formula.

Bio-Availability

The one relative strength of Berry Green powder is its bio-availability.  Berry Green powder freeze drys its ingredients, which is a very good way to capture the nutrients that are locked inside, delivering lots of nutritional value to the body.  According to Berry Green’s website: “Freeze-drying has been widely recognized as the best way to instantly capture and to preserve the vital integrity of whole organic foods. Foods processed in this way retain their optimal color, shape, flavor and nutritional values, and become concentrated up to 10 times their original form.”  So this makes Berry Green powder good in terms of bio-availability.  We don’t quite agree with them that freeze-drying is the very best way to process fruits and vegetables for human digestion, but it’s definitely a very good way to go.  The Poten-Zyme process that we talked about in the last article is another very great way to process foods for human digestion, and is probably a little bit superior to freeze-drying.

Cost

If you’re going to pay top dollar for a green powder, you should probably go for one that has 5 stars for completeness.  There are a couple of other brands that we’ve reviewed that are comparable in terms of cost, but we feel that they’re much more complete green powder formulas.  Check out our “Best Green Powders” page to see how we’ve rated each powder.  But as always, the choice is yours.

Wheatgrass Powder — Green Superfood

A wheatgrass powder product with lots of other healthy ingredients

Wheatgrass Powder on Sale Here

Wheatgrass Powder

Wheatgrass powder is something I’ve started becoming skeptical of in recent days.  The main reason why is because due to the fact that wheatgrass was one of the first green powders to really grow in popularity, it’s now in widespread production.  In recent days, companies from China have started producing wheatgrass powder for sale in America.  We’re personally a bit skeptical of Chinese health products, especially a powder formula that can easily be full of filler, either harmful or innocuous.  That’s the reason why as far as wheatgrass powder is concerned, we’re promoting the above product.  Green Superfood powder is very full of wheatgrass powder, and Green Superfood is very inexpensive but also quality. One serving of Green Superfood powder has:

  • 5300mg of grasses and green algae (The main ingredient is wheatgrass)

Cost

A 30 day supply of Green Superfood is the same price as a 30 day supply of one of the leading wheatgrass powders.  But with Green Superfood, you get a lot of other quality ingredients as well.  Wheatgrass powder by itself is great, but having it in a combination with lots of other types of green ingredients is better, especially if there’s no difference in price.

Bio-Availability

Wheatgrass is an amazing green powder, but as far as bio-availability goes, it’s much better to take a wheatgrass powder inside of a combination with probiotics and digestive enzymes.  Because of the Standard American Diet that many of us eat, our digestive tracts aren’t in the most amazing shape.  Snacks, starches, and sugars that are easy to digest abound in the modern diet, making our digestive tract work less to absorb and process energy.  Because of that, once you start eating or drinking complex nutrient dense greens, such as wheatgrass powder, your digestive tract isn’t able to fully process and absorb the nutrients.  So a lot of it goes to waste.  But, when you take a combination green powder, such as Green Superfood, it comes with digestive enzymes and probiotics to help get your digestive tract back into high efficiency function.  So not only do you get a power packed burst of green nutrients, you get an extra boost in digestive power to help absorb and process those same nutrients.

Green Superfood Review

For the price, Green Superfood powder is definitely one of the best green powder combinations out there. In terms of ingredients, it’s basically your meat and potatoes variety of green powder, meaning that is contains all of the biggies like Organic Chlorella and a variety of grasses, a good combination of antioxidants, and a few probiotics and digestive enzymes.  For only $20 like it is right now through the sale we found, you really can’t beat it. If you’re relatively new to the world of green powders and are looking for an inexpensive, yet quality green powder that has all of your basics, then Green Superfood powder is the one for you.  Here are a few of its ingredients per serving:

  • 5300mg of grasses and algae including Chlorella and Spirulina
  • 1100mg of antioxidants
  • 400mg of probiotics, digestive enzymes and prebiotics
  • Vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin B complex, Selenium, Calcium, Iron, and more

So as you can see, Green Superfood is very power packed with healthy green nutrients.  5300mg of grasses and algae is nothing to sneeze at.  And at the price, you really can’t beat it.  Ordinarily this product goes for about $35 a can.  But we’ve found in on a great sale for less than $20 through the link above.

Who This Powder is For

  • People just starting out with green powders
  • People who want a great green powder at a low cost
  • People with digestive problems

What This Powder is Lacking

Since we called Green Superfood powder a meat and potatoes variety green powder, what things is it lacking?  Well there are a variety of things that other green powders include in their combinations that aren’t found here.  One of them is raw foods.  Raw foods are foods that haven’t been heated above 115 degrees and have undergone a very small amount of processing.  They’re very close to being in their original state and are thus very bio-available.  Another thing this product doesn’t have is any miscellaneous ingredients that promote general wellness, things like Milk Thistle Extract, Ginkgo Biloba, Adaptogens, or some of the things that other green powders can boast.  An adaptogen by the way is a natural herb product that is thought to increase the body’s resistance to stress, trauma, anxiety and fatigue. In the past, they have also been termed rejuvenating herbs.

Hemp Protein Powder Review

Hemp protein powder is one of the very best green powder proteins on the market.  A person needs to be careful when they buy it however, because there are a lot of examples of hemp protein powder that aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be.  For example, about a year ago I purchased a can of hemp protein powder without really reading the ingredients until I got home, only to find out that for every serving, there were 11 grams of fiber to 9 grams of protein.  The powder was more than 50% fiber.  How do you call a powder a protein powder if it’s mostly comprised of fiber and not protein?  That’s why we’ve selected Hemp Pro 70 to review.

Hemp Pro 70 Main Ingredients

  • 70% Protein per serving
  • 800mg Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids

I’m very impressed with the high Omega 3 EFA content.  That’s a very high amount, especially inside of a protein powder.  The reason why this product only got 3 out of 5 stars in terms of completeness is because as far as green powders go, hemp protein doesn’t have the full range of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients offered by many of the leading green powders out there.  However, if you’re wanting to take hemp protein mostly for the protein value, and don’t really care about getting a bunch of other vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, then Hemp Pro 70 is an awesome way to go.  It has the highest protein concentration of any hemp protein we’re aware of on the market, and a very high Omega 3 EFA content as well.

As far as bio-availability goes, hemp protein in general has a lot of indigestible plant matter in it.  And while fiber intake is a great thing, there are cheaper ways of getting it in your diet.  Bio-availability is another reason why we chose Hemp Pro 70 as our featured hemp protein, because it doesn’t have nearly the same fiber content that a lot of other hemp protein powders have.  The cost is a bit more than other hemp proteins, but from our perspective, you get what you pay for.  If you want to pay less for a hemp protein comprised mostly of fiber, that’s your prerogative. Here’s what the users are saying:

Sheetszone said:

Hemp is head and shoulders above all other protein sources, and I have tried them all! This is a great protein concentrate… I drink a shake with it every morning… mixes easily… taste is fairly bland, leaning toward nutty. More expensive than others, but a better source of protein and higher concentration. I did hours of research before choosing this product, and I definitely recommend it!

Progreens

Progreens is what I consider to be an average green powder.  In terms of completeness, they’ve added things like probiotics and algae to their formula, but it seems more like a side dish than the main course.  Here’s why.  Even though Progreens powder boasts a lot of amazing ingredients, like grasses, algae, and juices, one overwhelming thing stands out.  The biggest ingredient, by far, is soy lecithin, coming in at 2000mg per serving.  Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against soy lecithin, but it’s definitely more of a filler ingredient than a main course.  The second highest ingredient is flaxseed meal, coming it at only 500mg per serving.  There’s 4 times more soy lecithin per serving than the second highest ingredient.  That’s pretty staggering if you ask me, and that’s the reason why it only gets 3 stars for completeness.  Again, don’t get me wrong, this powder still has a lot of power packed healthy ingredients and you will feel healthier by taking it.  But when I take a green powder, I want to make sure I’m getting as much benefit for the cost as possible.

Probiotics

  • Lactobacillus

L.rhamnosus A, L.rhamnosus B, L.acidophilus, L.casei, L.delbrueckii, bulgaricus

  • Bifidobacterium

B.longum, B.breve Streptococcus salivarius subsp. Thermophilus

The probiotic content again leaves a little bit to be desired.  Though they have 5 great strains in their formula, 2 of which are listed above, they only have 5 billion cultures per serving.  That may sound like a lot, but it’s really not.  One doctor that I respect a lot has a product with 60 billion cultures per serving, and Green Vibrance, which I’ve reviewed already, has 25 billion cultures per serving.  5 billion per serving just isn’t really enough to make an impact.  That’s another reason why this product only gets 3 stars for completeness.  They have all the right ingredients, they just didn’t formulate them together in the right proportions.

Other Ingredients

  • Milk Thistle Extract: 60mg
  • Ginkgo Biloba Extract: 20mg
  • Green Tea Extract: 20mg

These ingredients intrigue me because they aren’t common in green powders, but I like that Progreens has them in their formula.  These ingredients are brain food ingredients and help promote clarity and alertness.  Milk Thistle Extract, while not specifically a brain food, is great for overall wellness, promoting cleansing and healthy liver function.

Cost

The cost is probably the best thing about this product.  While it’s generally $45 for a can of the stuff, it’s on a very good sale through Amazon for only $26.
