Wheatgrass powder was one of the very first green powders to hit the market, being served as juice in smoothie shops and sold widely as both grass and powder. Since then, a lot of new green powder combinations have come out, with a wide variety of green ingredients, usually including wheatgrass. Our last article was about a great green powder combination that has wheatgrass powder as its primary ingredient. Check that one out before making a decision. As you can see from the rating, we don’t think super highly of wheatgrass powder by itself. It’s expensive, and doesn’t give you the best bang for your buck. Not only that, but because of the popularity of wheatgrass powder, and the ease of producing it, a lot of wheatgrass powders are now starting to be produced in China. Chinese manufacturers are notorious for using fillers in their food and health products, and not all of these fillers are innocuous and safe. Some of these fillers have been known to cause serious side effects, which we wrote about in another article. So if you’re going to buy a wheatgrass powder, make sure you buy one from a quality manufacturer like the one listed above. Don’t buy the $12 a pound variety, unless you’re comfortable buying a product that may have low quality standards.
A quality brand of wheatgrass powder isn’t going to be cheap. They’ll usually run you about $20 for a 30 month supply. That’s the reason why we don’t recommend buying straight wheatgrass powder. There are better products out there that give you more bang for your buck. In our last review of wheatgrass powder, we wrote about one such product that had wheatgrass as its main ingredient, but also contained a wide variety of other healthy green ingredients.
As you can see from the stars, we gave wheatgrass powder only average marks for bio-availability. That’s because wheatgrass is, after all, a grass. It isn’t something that the human digestive tract can easily handle. Not only that, but because of the generally poor eating habits of most people in our modern age, our digestive tracts generally are fairly inefficient and lazy. That’s the reason why most green powder combinations come with things like digestive enzymes and probiotics in their formula. They want to ensure that you’re not only getting a great spread of healthy ingredients, but that your digestive tract is able to make full use of those ingredients. Just taking wheatgrass powder by itself doesn’t ensure that you’re going to get the best bang for your buck.
